WiNS was founded by D-CHAB scientists Prof. Katherine Elvira , Dr. Daniela Paunescu-Bluhm, and Dr. Jessica Schulz in 2014. During their time at ETH Zürich, they were researchers at ICB and IPW. When asked about their motivation to found such an association at D-CHAB, Katherine's inspiration was: "I have seen women’s societies in other universities around the world and I thought it would be a good idea to start one here", while Daniela advocated that: "We need more female role models in academia and industry to help us make informed decisions on our next career step." and Jessica noted that: "It’s a good way to have close contact with industry and really focus on women’s careers." We completely agree with their vision and would like to recognize all the women, who have come before us and worked hard to raise the topics of equity and inclusion for all at ETH Zürich and beyond. Since our vision is shared with people at other departments, we have joined forces with D-BIOL in 2021 as well as D-PHYS & D-MATL in 2023.
